334 An interesting tale about "Bonnie Kate" may be found in Lyman Draper. "King's Mountain and its Heroes," p. 420, and Pat Alderman. "The Overmountain Men," p. 33:

At daybreak on 21 July 1776, several women were outside the Watauga Fort milking cows. A large body of Cherokee Indians fired on the milkers who fortunately all escaped into the fort. One of the young girls thus engaged was Catharine Sherrill, who, when she reached the gate, found it shut. She threw her bonnet over the pickets and then clambered over herself. Just as she jumped within, she was caught in the arms of John Sevier who would become her future husband four years later.
SHERILL, Catherine (I544)

Obituaries

Diane Marie Moilanen

76 of Peoria, AZ, daughter of Dude (John) and Lucille Kirk. Diane met her husband Jack (John) in Roswell New Mexico and began what would be her 22 year journey as a "veteran spouse" of the United States Air Force. During their military adventures they lived in England for four years and Germany for fourteen. Together with their three children, Debby, Donna and Denise, they traveled through Europe enjoying castles, festivals, volksmarches, and wine tasting. Holidays were extremely important to her and their home was always decorated to the nines for every occasion. While in Europe, Diane was also "mom" to many young service men and women. She opened their home during the holidays so they always had a place to celebrate with their "military family." An amazing cook and baker, she would spend weeks preparing delicious treats for them to enjoy at the many meals served in their home. She was a fierce animal lover and fostered and saved the lives of countless animals. She loved watching basketball, and all that knew her, knew better than to even think about calling her when "her" Suns were playing. The absence of her leaves a huge hole in our hearts and she will be missed more than words can say. Tough we are comforted knowing that we will one day be united with her, her physical absence leaves us at a loss. Diane is survived by so many that loved her, her husband Jack (John), daughters, Debby and husband Tom, Donna, Denise and husband Robert, her grandchildren, Jennifer, Jesse, Jeremy, Bobby (Robert), Ivy and Robert Jr., her great grandchildren, Morgan, Olive, Micah and Valor, sisters Benita and Joanne, brothers Tommy and Jimmy, as well as many nieces and cousins. Services will be held August 15rh at 2:00 p.m. at The Heritage Funeral Chapel in Peoria AZ. In Diane's memory, please consider, in lieu of flowers, a donation to 4 Paws 10807 N. 96th Ave. Peoria AZ, 85345 in memory of Diane Moilanen.
