The marriage of Major the Hon. Augustus Henry Archibald Anson, V.C. (second surviving son of the late Earl of Lichfield), with the daughter of the Rev. Thomas Legh Claughton, vicar of Kidderminster, honorary canon of Worcester, and formerly professor of poetry in the University of Oxford, was solemnised yesterday at Kidderminster with universal rejoicings. The bride's mother is the Hon. Julia Susannah, daughter of the Rev. William Ward, 10th Baron Ward, and sister of the present Earl of Dudley. The town was a scene of festivities in which Dissenters no less than Churchmen joined, the vicar, though firm in his Churchmanship, being universally beloved for his liberality and tolerance. Kidderminster was decorated with garlands, arches, and flags. The Mayor proposed an address to the vicar from the Town Council, and a present to Miss Claughton; and the children of St. Mary's Schools presented her with a Bible, while her own Sunday class gave her a Prayer-book. Various other demonstrations of goodwill were shown to the family. The bride was attended by eight bridesmaids - the Hon. Lucy Lyttelton, Miss Pearce, Miss Ward and Miss Henrietta Ward, Miss Katherine and Miss Lucy Claughton, Miss Edith Montgomery, and Miss Hemming. The service was performed by the Right Rev. Dr. Morrell, Coadjutor Bishop of Edinburgh (a former curate of Mr. Claughton's), and the Rev. C.J. Mottram, incumbent of St George's, Kidderminster. The wedding breakfast took place at the vicar's residence, Summer-hill, at which 40 guests were present, including the Earl of Dudley, Lady Ward, the Earl and Countess of Lichfield, Lord Elcho, M.P., and Lady Elcho, Mr. W. J. Legh, of Lynne, M.P., and Mrs. Legh, Mr. G. Greenall, M.P., the Bishop (Coadjutor) of Edinburgh, the Hon. Adalbert Anson, the Mayor of Kidderminster, the Rev. H.A. Woodgate, B.D., honorary canon of Worcester, and Miss Eleanor Woodgate, the Rev. E.W. Isaac, Mr. George Barker, &c. [2]
